Extended Work Experience Programme

What is the programme about?

The Extended Work Experience Programme is run by Newham Education Business
Partnership, an organisation which brings together the education and business
sectors. It aims to develop and enhance the skills and potential of Newham
students through enterprise and business link activities. The programme enables
students, who may not be suited to the 10 GCSE method of study, to have an
opportunity to explore their potential through a work experience placement.

How long?

Students will be out of school for 1-2 days per week on an extended work
experience placement. This will be for a period of 1-2 academic years, dependant
on whether they joined the programme in Year 10 or 11, and individual agreements
with schools. The remainder of the week should consist of the student working
in their school/centre on their curriculum.

Planning

Each student is interviewed individually by the NEBP Work Experience Co-ordinator
so that their choices and needs can be assessed. Students are then matched
up to a suitable business and an interview arranged. This enables the student
and employer to meet prior to the placement starting.

Monitoring

The Work Experience Co-ordinator will contact employers each week that the
students are due to attend. The co-ordinator will check their attendance
and follow up on any non-attendance. Regular visits will also be made to
review the students progress within the work place and address any concerns
or suggestions both the student and employer may have.
