Mock Interviews
Aims & Objectives
- To raise student awareness of interview skills / techniques
- To help students in the preparation of CVs and letters of application
- To help students prepare effectively for an interview
- To enable students to experience an interview with ‘a real employer’
Description of Activity
Students acquire experience in being interviewed for a job while employees
acquire experience in interviewing and assessing (young) people.
Normally students will be able to select from one of the ‘real life’ jobs
advertised in the Mock Interview pack. The mock interview is, preferably, conducted
at the place of work of the business volunteer. If no appropriate place of
work is available a school-based interview can be arranged. An interview at
the place of work will make matters more convenient for the volunteer while
at the same time it will make it more ‘real’ for the student. A
typical interview will last about 20 minutes with 5 minutes for the interviewer
to fill out student feedback forms and 5 minutes for immediate verbal feedback.
Depending on the number of student candidates this will be a half a day or
a whole day activity.
What we Need
As all students of Newham are doing mock-interviews the amount of mock interviews is huge. So there is always a need for businesses volunteering to provide mock interviews. If you are, or know of, a business that might be able to help the youth of Newham, please do contact the NEBP.
