New Stratford City Education Project site

February 5th, 2008

A new resources site has been launched in partnership with the developers of Stratford City.

The project is being piloted at Forest Gate Community School to serve all
schools in LB Newham. It is funded by the developers of Stratford City and
is run by LB Newham and responds to the government’s education agenda
and the introduction of 14–19 Diplomas in 2008. The initiative is
based on collaboration between schools, the council and business as a model
of good practice. The project is delivered using innovative and specifically
devised learning resources that are relevant to the curriculum.

  • All resources are validated by teachers and tailored to curriculum delivery
  • Resources will also assist the 14–19 Diplomas to emphasise work related learning
  • Participation through a combination of facilitated work related learning activities within the classroom and external contextualised work related visits.
  • INSET sessions and overview of resources are available through existing teacher networks, events and through www.nebp.org.uk
  • Young people can pilot and test the resources and give evaluations.

THE WEDDING COMPETITION

March 2nd, 2007

Year 10 students from Plashet School participated in a new enterprise competition, organised by Newham Education Business Partnership, called ‘The Wedding’ and become wedding planners for the day.

To enter the competition each group of students had to allocate different roles to members of the team. Each team had to consist of a Team Leader, a Finance Manager, a Creative Manager and an Event Organiser. The team also had to justify the allocation of roles i.e. how each student met the requirements of their given role.

Armed with a brief, budget, guest list, resources and deadline, the teams presented their business plan, creations and proposals to a panel of judges.
The teams, with their own unique names from ‘The Wedding Crashers’ to ‘Desi Mix’, had to make choices in wedding dresses, catering companies, venues, decorations.. all the glitz and glamour which make up a perfect 21st century wedding!

The designs and style of the weddings the teams came up with ranged from flamboyant, gold-encrusted traditional Asian weddings to modern, minimal 21st century City weddings. Excelling in teamwork, business planning, problem solving and decision making skills, the students fulfilled their entrepreneurial and creative abilities whilst having tremendous fun!

Plashet School and Newham EBP were very pleased with the success of this enterprise competition.
