On the North-West of the Borough, Stratford, Maryland and Forest Gate have become key areas of regeneration. From small-scale housing projects in Maryland, to the massive Channel Tunnel Rail Link in Stratford, this area of Newham is seeing many changes.
The driving force behind this regeneration is Stratford's role as a transport hub. Connected to several railway and tube lines, with key bus routes and important roads running though it, Stratford is a gateway to the rest of London. For many years Stratford has had this role, indeed the name Stratford is a medieval term describing how the Roman road connecting Colchester and London ran through the area.
Stratford Town Centre has undergone, and continues to undergo, a major programme of regeneration.
The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is currently under construction in Stratford, with exciting plans for the surrounding area.
