On the North-West of the Borough, Stratford, Maryland and Forest Gate have become key areas of regeneration. From small-scale housing projects in Maryland, to the massive Channel Tunnel Rail Link in Stratford, this area of Newham is seeing many changes.
The driving force behind this regeneration is Stratford's role as a transport hub. Connected to several railway and tube lines, with key bus routes and important roads running though it, Stratford is a gateway to the rest of London. For many years Stratford has had this role, indeed the name Stratford is a medieval term describing how the Roman road connecting Colchester and London ran through the area.
Stratford Town Centre
Stratford Town Centre has undergone, and continues to undergo, a major programme of regeneration.
Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Stratford Rail Lands Development
The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is currently under construction in Stratford, with exciting plans for the surrounding area.
Forest Gate and Plaistow SRB5 Programme
The Forest Gate & Plaistow SRB5 is a £92 million regeneration programme, the aim of which is for Forest Gate and Plaistow to become a first choice locality with thriving and renewed neighbourhoods.
The 2012 Olympics
The Government is making a bid for London to host the 2012 Olympic Games. Should the bid be successful then the impact on London and especially Newham will be huge.
Three Mills Island
Located on the far North-West of the Borough, Three Mills Island is the third largest film production studio in London. With 14 studios, including design studios and a preview theatre, Three Mills Island is an exciting addition to Newham.
Maryland Point Housing Scheme
A joint project between Toynbee Housing Association and Boleyn & Forest Housing Society, the Maryland Point Housing Scheme is a new housing development on a brownfield site at Maryland Point in Stratford.
Crossrail
Crossrail was established to promote and develop vital rail links to meet the needs of people and businesses throughout the South East, and to ensure that London continues in its role as Europe's leading financial and business centre.
Cultural Quarter
A short walk from Stratford Station, the Cultural Quarter consists of the Theatre Royal, the Picture House Cinema and Stratford Circus, a performing arts centre. With many bars and restaurants now opening in the Quarter, Stratford is becoming a cultural centre for East London.
