Preparation for WEX – Rights & Responsibilities

Aims & Objectives

  • To prepare students for a Work Experience placement
  • To help deliver the Rights & Responsibilities element of the ASDAN
    – Career Planning qualification
  • To ensure students understand the concept of Functional Skills and their
    application in the work place
  • To raise awareness on key issues for the workplace

Description of Activity

To assist with preparation for work experience, schools can select from a range of sessions which can be supported by representatives from the world of work. The sessions can address the following:

  • Action planning using the development of the key skills and wider skills
    during work experience as a focus
  • Health and Safety using resources and a variety of exercises
  • Rights and Responsibilities and Equality of Opportunity in the workplace
    using panel games, role play (tribunals), discussion and debate as strategies
    to raise awareness on these issues
  • Enterprise skills a simulation exercise where the activities will focus
    on business enterprise and teamwork. Students create their business plan,
    product and marketing strategy and give a presentation

Learning outcomes

Students will develop an awareness of and/or skills in:

  • Effective team-work
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Debate, role play and negotiation
  • The wider key skills
  • Enterprise/creativity
  • Action Planning
  • Body language
  • Why Health and Safety is important in the workplace, and how they can impact on an individual and the organisation as a whole
